Aurora hunting in Yellowknife

Yellowknife is the capital city of Canada’s Northwest Territories. It lies on the north shore of Great Slave Lake, with possible views of the northern lights in fall and winter.

Yellowknife is the best place in the world to view the aurora borealis, also known as the Northern Lights. With our long and clear winter nights, mid-November to the beginning of April tend to be the best times of the year to visit for a good viewing. Late summer to early autumn often also offers a good chance of seeing the lights.
